The Grand View track & field teams competed at the Dennis Young Classic in Storm Lake today. The Viking men placed six in the top four and finished fifth overall in the team scoring.

Leading the way for GV with runner-up finishes was senior Lance Maxwell (Racine, Wis.) in the weight throw (15.83m) and junior Kenny Simmons (St. Louis, Mo.) in the triple jump (13.37m).

Grand View finished third in three events – senior Alex Alvarez (Lewisville, Texas) in the 600m dash (1:23.83), senior Marc Osborn (Council Bluffs, Iowa) in the weight throw (15.81m), and the 4x800m relay team of sophomore Seth Harjes (Polk City, Iowa), freshman JR Snyder (Altoona, Iowa), senior Justin Welsh (Altoona, Iowa) and sophomore Bryce Carpenter (Corydon, Iowa) who finished in a time of 8:33.14.

Junior Keonte White (Grand Prairie, Texas) was fourth in the 400m dash in a conference-leading time of 51.56.

The Vikings will next compete at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships on February 14 in Sterling, Illinois.
