Grand View Wins Men's Track & Field Indoor Title; Maxwell Field Athlete of Year
The Grand View men's track and field won its fourth indoor crown at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday at Westwood Fitness and Sports Center in Sterling, Illinois.

St. Ambrose was a distant runner-up with 158.5 points; William Penn was third with 123.5. Clarke (94) came in fourth Mount Mercy (85) fifth, and Viterbo rounded out the standings with 21 points.

 
The Vikings won four of the 18 events on Friday. Lance Maxwell won the weight throw with an NAIA 'B' qualifying mark of 17.39m.  Keonte White won both the 55m (6.50) and 200m (22.67) and Tanner LaBore was champion in the Pole Vault (3.95m).

GV picked up more valuable points with a host of second and third place finishes. Runner-up finishes came from freshman Jordan Cheatem in the 55m, Alex Alvarez in both the 400 and 600m, and Marc Osborn in the weight throw.

 Coming in third in their events was Maxwell (shot put), Kenny Simmons (55m), Tre Porter (200m) , Zach Vos (600m), JR Snyder (mile), Kevin Brown (5,000m), and Jimmie Davis (triple jump), and Hunter Donovan (weight throw).

At the conclusion of the championships, Maxwell was recognized for his performances and voted as the MCC Men's Field Athlete of the Year; the second honor of his career. Grand View head coach Jerry Monner was named MCC Coach of the Year by his peers for the eighth time in his career (fourth indoor).

The Viking track & field teams next compete at the Wartburg Invitational Saturday, Feb. 22, in Waverly.
