[Men's Indoor Track and Field] Vikings Win Three Events, Finish Third at MCC Indoor Championships

The Viking men took third of six teams at the MCC Indoor Track & Field Championship this weekend. St. Ambrose won the team title with 205.5 points, followed by William Penn (131), Grand View (169), Clarke (62), Mount Mercy (33), and Viterbo (23.5).

Grand View won three events, with senior Keonte White (Grand Prairie, Texas) collecting two titles. White won the 60m in 6.86 seconds which set a new meet record, a GV school record and was an NAIA 'A" national qualifying time, and also the 200m (22.41).
 

Sophomore Nate Johnston (Carroll, Iowa) won the weight throw with an NAIA 'A toss of 17.98m, a new school record.

The Vikings had four runner-up and four third places finishes on Saturday. Placing second was junior Cameron Paddock (Monticello, Iowa) in the weight throw (16.60m, NAIA 'B' mark), senior Kenny Simmons (St. Louis, Mo.) in the triple jump (13.86m), the 4x400m relay (Jordan Cheatem, Tre Porter, White, Clay Cory), (3:27.63), and the distance medley relay (Rhett Gainey, Rondell Simmons, Ray Quiroz, and Nate Johnson) (11:12.66).

In third was Cheatem in the 60m (7.06), freshman Leeshad O'Neal (Wharton, Texas) in the 200m (22.67), sophomore Malik Denny (Des Moines, Iowa) in the high jump (1.96m), and junior Dallas Franks (Thurman, Iowa) in the shot put (14.18m).

The men compete next at the Wartburg Invitational in Waverly on Saturday, Feb. 21.
