The Viking women won three events, hit three national qualifying marks, set two meet records and a school record en route to a runner-up finish at the MCC Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend in Sterling, Illinois.

Grand View finished with 131 team points behind champion St. Ambrose (238). Clarke (114) and Mount Mercy (111), Viterbo (46), and William Penn (35) rounded out the standings.

Senior Val Veiock (West Des Moines, Iowa) was voted as the MCC Indoor Athlete of the Year. Veiock won the shot put with an NAIA 'A' mark of 14.59m which set new meet and school records.  She was second in the weight throw with an NAIA 'A' toss of 17.69m, a new personal best.

Teammate Jena Krebs (Washington, Iowa) won the weight throw with a new meet record distance of 17.80m. The senior's throw also met the NAIA 'A' national qualifying standard. She also placed third in the shot put with a mark of 12.45m.

The team of sophomore Hannah Sobaski (Fairfield, Iowa), freshman Jamie Barry (Maynard, Iowa), sophomore Kimberly Teno (Albia, Iowa), and sophomore Natalie Potts (Altoona, Iowa) took the title in the distance medley relay in time of 13:28.61.

Other highlights included a runner-up finish in the 600m by freshman Kennedy King (Davenport, Iowa) and third place finishes in four events – the 4x400m relay (Ronnoja Ayers, Katie Roberts, Barry, Alyssa Cunningham) (4:15.90), the 4x800m relay (Potts, Sobaski, Bakita Kak, Teno) (10:41.63), and junior Amber Jones (Lee's Summit, Mo.) in the shot put (15.57m).

The Vikings next compete at the Wartburg Invitational in Waverly on February 21.
